Frequently Asked Questions
Can you fix my telescopic bleacher system?
Except for certain obsolete (and unsafe) “slant” type bleachers, Bleacherman repairs and refurbishes all brands of telescopic bleachers, anywhere in the U.S. Even bleachers that were made by manufacturers that are no longer in business can be returned to “as new” condition and brought up to full compliance with safety and building codes. If you would like to verify that your bleachers qualify for Evergreen, please e-mail photos of your bleachers to Bleacherman. Or better yet, see the “Get A Quick Quote” section of this website.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the project, what has to be done and where it is located. Generally, the average size school (with a seating capacity of approximately 1000) requires 2-3 weeks from start to finish. If you have special requirements, i.e., has to be completed before basketball season, please let us know what your timetable is.
How much does it cost?
Again, the final cost will depend on the size of the project, what has to be done and where it is located. We know from experience that a complete repair/refurbish project, including all code updates plus installation of the Century Design® system in conjuction with heavy duty push button motors is typically up to 30% less than the cost of purchasing new bleachers.
Do you offer a warranty?
For telescopic bleacher systems that have been repaired/refurbished by Bleacherman and have been retrofitted with the “no-sag” Century Design® system, we offer a renewable 20-year warranty. This warranty includes parts and labor.and is NOT voided if a student should climb on the bleachers in the closed position. In a nutshell if your bleachers sag, or our motors become defective, or the drive rollers delaminate, we will fix free of charge.
How long have you been in business?
MARS(Manufacturers Applied Renovation Systems, Inc.)/Bleacherman has been involved in different aspects of school renovation since 1987. The company’s efforts have been wholly directed to telescopic bleacher repair and refurbishing since 1997.

What if I need new bleachers?
Most of the time, if you have existing bleachers, we would advise you to have them fixed. (In our opinion the older bleachers are better made, stronger and more durable than the new bleachers available today). However, that’s not always possible, such as in the case of new construction. In these situations, we recommend choosing an Evergreen Bleacher™ system from Bleacherman. This gives you the best of both worlds -- a quality remanufactured bleacher system based on a recycled understructure with your choice of wood, vinyl on steel or Plastic Seat Modules seating. Please contact us toll-free at (800) 628-1332 for complete details.
We just had our bleachers repaired and the same problem reoccurred. Why?
All bleachers have a built-in design flaw that causes them to sag. Until the design flaw is corrected, sagging problems will continue to happen and require repairs. Fortunately, this design flaw is easily (and permanently) corrected by retrofitting the Century Design system. Many times bleacher repair companies will substitute lubricants that provide short term solutions for ease of operation.
We need to fix our bleachers AND stretch our budget. Can you help?
Yes. Many years of working with school administrators have shown us how important it is to work on a cooperative basis with the school and within the school’s budget. Often only partial funding is available for needed repairs. In this situation we recommend that the school begin with "Get A Quick Quote" to identify what needs to be done. (Please note in the comments section that your school requires repair work to be done in phases to stay within budget.) Bleacherman will identify what needs to be done, in the order of importance. Bleacher repair, motorization, special features, etc. can be done in stages over a two to four year period.
Can I buy replacement lumber?
Bleacherman always has wood in stock at our facility in Corinth, NY. However, a perfect match to your original seatboards may not be possible, especially for fir and mahogany. We ask for a sample of a broken board to try and color-match as close as possible. Another option is to cut finger joints and glue sections of broken boards together for a replacement board. See also the “Plastic Seat Modules section in this website, for a cost-effective solution, if you have lots of broken boards.
Do you sell parts?
Yes. We have a limited inventory of replacement parts for most manufacturers. We will fabricate replacement parts if needed. A sample part is required, if the part has to be fabricated.
What if I'm refinishing or replacing my gym floors?
This is a good time to completely refurbish your bleachers. Having the bleachers brought back to "as-new" condition goes hand-in-hand with floor work, because the refurbished bleachers are less likely to damage the new finish on the floor. For examples of the Bleacherman's experience with new gym floors, please see the Brookfield, NY and Camp Lejeune, NC case histories.
Our gym floor is going to be refinished -- and it really needs it. The folding gym seats look really beat up and tired, too. Should we do them at the same time?
Refinishing the gym floor is a big job and many times schools will combine both projects to minimize the amount of time that the gym is closed to students. At Bleacherman, we’ve found that there are two essential requirements to a successful gym floor/bleacher refurbishment.
ONE. Coordinating with the flooring contractor is critical. We use a step-by-step procedure to prevent damage to the new floor.
TWO. Refinishing gym floors is a dusty business and the sawdust goes everywhere. Covering the bleachers with plastic and hermetically sealing them with tape is a pain in the neck -- but is much better than having to clean the dust off of the entire understructure and all the wheels.
If your school is considering a complete gym refurbishing project (which includes both the floor and telescopic bleacher seating), please notify Bleacherman as soon as possible. Extra lead time may be required to coordinate with your flooring contractor and to stage materials and equipment at your location.
I am replacing my gym floor - do I have to remove or replace my bleachers?
No - actually this is a good time, prior to floor replacement, to remanufacture existing bleachers to "Better than new" condition. Not to say we can't do it afterward, because we can, it's just simpler prior to floor removal.
We are expanding the school and building a new gym. We will need new bleachers. Can you help us?
Yes. When new construction calls for new bleachers, Bleacherman offers a “green” solution: Evergreen Bleachers™. Now you can have the bleachers you want, in your choice of wood or plastic seat modules. When MARS-Bleacherman installs Evergreen bleachers in a new multi-use athletic facility, their long-term trouble-free operation is based on the patented no-sag Century Design® system and backed by a renewable 20-year warranty.
The fact that Evergreen Bleachers™ may include remanufactured components such as refinished wood and/or recycled hardware, puts them in line with a responsible environmental policy and may contribute to Materials Recycling Credits (#4 and #5) toward LEED (“Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”) certification. If you are committed to a “green” building in your new construction, then choosing Evergreen Bleachers™ can help achieve that goal.
Because all Evergreen Bleachers™ incorporate the patented Century Design® system to prevent sagging, they provide complete support in the closed, partially open and full open positions. These are bleachers made to last, so all the latest safety equipment and code-required features are included. Fully motorized operation opens and closes the bleachers evenly, at the touch of a button.
Compared to some of the “Big Names” in the telescopic bleacher seating industry, Evergreen Bleachers™ can save a considerable amount, compared to the cost of new bleachers. Why not find out if Evergreen™ Bleachers are right for you? Call Bleacherman at 1-800-628-1332 and ask for a “cost comparison of Evergreen Bleachers™ vs. New Bleachers.”
Is it true existing bleachers are "grandfathered?"
NO! There is no grandfather clause on equipment. Owners must realize that telescopic seating has hundreds of moving parts and carries a lot of people, just like a school bus.
We have bleachers we do not need. What are they worth? Can we sell them?
Possibly. It all depends on the system. All bleachers have value but the condition of the mechanism and costs of dismantling, removal and transportation have to be factored in. Bleacherman is always interested in existing telescopic/retractable bleacher systems. Please contact us for more information, we may be able to help you dispose of bleachers you do not need.
We have special problems with our telescopic seating that nobody seems able to fix. Will you come to our school?
How much does it cost for you to look at my bleachers?
Yes, if needed Bleacherman is available on a consulting basis. We can make a on-site diagnostic service call almost anywhere across America - and any costs incurred by that service call would be deductible from the cost of the project, if Bleacherman is awarded the job. However, you may be able to find out what you need to know, without incurring ANY costs, if you take advantage of our Quick Quote service. When you complete the information on the Quick Quote form, it gives us important details about your bleachers, without the upfront expense. We can discuss your requirements with a better understanding of what you need.
The wheels on the bleachers leave ugly black marks on our wood floor. Do I have to replace all the bleacher wheels?
No - bleacher wheels are non marking. The black marks on the wood or synthetic floors are the existing dust and dirt on the floor where over time the bleacher imbeds this dirt into the floor finish or surface.
I have problems with the motors on my bleachers during operation. How do I solve this problem?
Simple - you need a motor and rollers that can do the job correctly. What you have is a low bid system; you got what you paid for. That being said, the Bleacherman has independent testing laboratory results for your review. We also guarantee our motors from defects and rollers will not delaminate or damage your floor, wood or synthetic. Guaranty is 20 years and is renewable.
